FREE FAMILY LAW WEBINAR

Domestic Violence and Family Law: Understanding High Risk and Potential Lethal Outcomes in Child Custody Cases

Join us on Monday, October 30 at 12:00 - 1:30 PM CDT

Domestic violence, including firearm violence, is a pervasive public health crisis impacting people of all backgrounds. Many family law conflicts—whether identified as “DV cases” or not—include elements of power and control, harassment, manipulation, and risks to the adults, children, and professionals involved. When these characteristics are combined with access to firearms, the possibility of severe injury and lethal outcomes (such as suicide, homicide, and accidental shootings) also increases. Because universal screening for these “red flags” has not been widely implemented, family law professionals may not be fully aware of the risks in a given situation.

This 90-minute webinar will cover the legal landscape on a federal and state level around domestic violence and firearms, the types of firearm violence impacting families, and what professionals can do to reduce risk and craft more protective parenting time/child custody provisions.

This is a free event. Attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance after the webinar.

Learning Objectives:

Upon the completion of the workshop, attendees will be able to:
  • Understand the legal landscape at the federal and state level around domestic violence and firearms
  • Become familiar with practices for screening for and providing information on domestic violence and firearm risks in family law cases
  • Be able to identify ways to decrease risks for adults and children in family law cases
